Bringing in Branches as Decor

Hello Beautiful Souls!

I have been redecorating and trying to bring some more plant life into my home. As I take my nature walks, I see beautiful trees, herbs, and flowers and I just want to surround my home with all of it. I investigated ways to bring these branch beauties in the house and giving my space a nice green touch. I love the smell of eucalyptus and just bought some dried versions to place in my new vases I purchased today. You can choose from clear forms or even some beautiful pottery and ceramics.

I was in a store downtown yesterday and we saw some of the most beautifully dressed dining tables that I just wants to photograph! My friend mentioned a page on social media called “Eyeswoon”  and I just loved Athena Calderone’s work. I ordered her book today and really resonated some of with her design philosophy. I just love her minimalistic lifestyle and how she incorporates branches into her vases and brings a lot of nature into her designs. It really makes you want to swoon!

When selecting branches for decoration, it's important to consider their size, shape, and overall condition. You can look for them in nature, your own garden, or consider purchasing them from local florists, garden centers, or online retailers specializing in decorative branches and foliage.

Here are some types of branches that are commonly used and work well for various decorative purposes:

  1. Birch branches

  2. Willow branches:

  3. Manzanita branches

  4. Magnolia branches

  5. Dogwood branches

  6. Eucalyptus branches

  7. Fruit tree branches

  8. Curly willow branches

  9. Olive branches

Bringing tree branches into your home as decor can add a touch of natural beauty and rustic charm. Here are some decorating examples and ideas for incorporating tree branches into your interior design:

  1. Branch centerpiece: Place a tall, sturdy tree branch in a large vase or decorative container as a striking centerpiece for your dining table or mantel. You can leave the branch as is or adorn it with fairy lights, hanging ornaments, or seasonal decorations.

  2. Wall art: Create a unique and eye-catching wall art display by arranging branches of varying sizes in an artistic composition. Secure them to the wall using hooks or mounting hardware. You can leave the branches bare or hang lightweight items such as photos, small planters, or hanging artwork from them.

  3. Branch chandelier: Craft a charming DIY chandelier by suspending branches from the ceiling and adding pendant lights or tea light candles to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Ensure that the branches are securely attached and that any electrical components are properly installed.

  4. Decorative branch arrangement: Arrange several branches of different lengths and sizes in a large floor vase or decorative container. This can serve as an elegant focal point in your living room, hallway, or entryway. Consider adding decorative elements like feathers, ribbons, or dried flowers to complement the branches.

  5. Branch coat rack: Repurpose a sturdy branch by attaching it horizontally to a wall and using it as a unique coat rack. Hang hooks or small knobs along the branch to hold coats, hats, bags, or scarves. This functional and nature-inspired piece adds character to your entryway or mudroom.

  6. Branch mobile: Create a whimsical mobile by hanging smaller branches at varying lengths from a larger branch or circular hoop. You can attach lightweight ornaments, feathers, or small potted plants to the hanging branches. Hang the mobile near a window or in a nursery for a natural and playful touch.

  7. Seasonal branch decor: Celebrate different seasons by decorating your branches accordingly. For example, during autumn, you can hang faux fall leaves or mini pumpkins. In winter, drape fairy lights or small ornaments from the branches for a festive ambiance.

Consider your desired aesthetic and the overall style of your space when incorporating branches as decor. Remember to select branches that are sturdy and stable. If you're collecting branches from nature, ensure they are dry and free from pests, plus pet friendly.
