10 Ways to Naturally Freshen the Air in Your Home
Who here has super-sensitive senses?
I am one of them, that’s for sure, I have all of them. I especially have an intense sense of smell and can even sense chemicals and mold better than most experts. I had a 100% success rate until I took a severely harsh medication that made my sense very off. Luckily, I am much better now, and my super abilities seem on point again. This is why I recommended treating things holistically, if possible, as any other way has consequences for me.
There are five basic human senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste. These sensing organs send information to the brain to help us understand and perceive the world around us. We can even incorporate our senses into our interior design, I wrote a blog on sensory design and can read more about it HERE.
I never asked for these special gifts of being a high-frequency empath (my terminology), I always had this super sense ability where everything is heightened, my hearing, my vision, and my sense of smell. For me, it’s so important that I have windows and can air out an environment, as this is the number one way to get the air to circulate in any living space.
Did you know that buildings also need to breathe?
This concept of ventilation can also be energetic, meaning if there was an argument or anything negative, I had a “sixth sense” and I needed to either leave the room or open a window. Everything seemed to greatly impact me, people, toxins in the home, and especially my environment. This can cause a certain type of “fatigue” as I constantly pick up on everything.
What’s a girl to do?
Well, I can use my special gifts for something right? By starters, helping clients discover toxins in their homes and coming up with alternative healthy solutions. I also have an ear for music, so for me, playing an instrument and facilitating sound healing in the home is a must, it clears my energy as well as makes me relaxed and calm.
10 ways to naturally freshen the air using DIY Natural methods:
Open windows: One of the easiest and most effective ways to freshen the air is to open windows and let in fresh air from outside. This helps to circulate the air and remove stale odors. Ventilation is how buildings breathe.
Indoor plants: Bring in houseplants that have air-purifying properties, such as snake plants, peace lilies, or spider plants. They help to filter toxins from the air and release oxygen, making the indoor air fresher.
Essential oil diffusers: An essential oil diffuser spreads pleasant scents throughout the room. Essential oils like lavender, eucalyptus, or citrus can help mask odors and create a fresh atmosphere.
Citrus peels: Instead of throwing away citrus peels, place them in a bowl or simmer them in water on the stove. The natural citrus oils will release a refreshing scent into the air.
Baking soda: Sprinkle baking soda on carpets, upholstery, or in trash cans to absorb odors. Leave it for a few hours or overnight, then vacuum or remove the baking soda to freshen the air.
Homemade potpourri: Create your own potpourri using dried flowers, herbs, and spices. Place the mixture in a decorative bowl and the natural scents will freshen the air.
Beeswax candles: Choose beeswax candles instead of regular paraffin candles, as they burn cleaner and release less soot and toxins into the air. Opt for candles scented with essential oils for a natural fragrance.
White vinegar: Place a small bowl of white vinegar in rooms with strong odors, such as kitchens or bathrooms. The vinegar will help absorb and neutralize the smells.
Activated charcoal: Use activated charcoal to absorb odors and purify the air. You can place small sachets of charcoal in closets, shoes, or litter boxes to eliminate unwanted smells.
Fresh herbs: Hang bundles of fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, or mint in your home. They release a natural aroma that freshens the air and provides a pleasant scent.
Remember to consider any allergies or sensitivities to scents when using these methods, and always ventilate the area properly.
