A Heartfelt Home: Designing Your Space and Reflecting on Holiday Stories

Home is more than where the heart is, when designing a home, some care and attention needs to be considered when planning the interiors of your space. Home is a place where many of life’s memories happen. From new arrivals of babies and pets to children growing up and leaving the nest, a home has many stories to tell. For this holiday season, what are some of the stories you want to reflect?

What is the story of your home?

I know for me, what I put into my home is special and curated by me with a lot of thought and attention put into it. I do the same for my clients, I always want to know what their story is when they are wanting to make changes to their space. I hold an innate ability for seeing spaces in a way that connects deeply with the people who inhabit them. It's a gift that's been with me for as long as I can remember. When I delve into a space, I can genuinely sense the soul of its owner, and it fills me with a sense of understanding and connection.

The story of a well-designed home is a narrative that revolves around the creation and evolution of a living space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. It's a tale of careful planning, creativity, and the unique needs and tastes of the homeowners.

As we approach the holiday season, it's the perfect time to reflect on the stories your home tells. The twinkling lights, the warm aromas from the kitchen, and the laughter of loved ones gathered around the table – these are the moments that make the holiday season special. It's a time to appreciate the coziness of your home, the comfort it provides, and the essence it holds.

During the holidays, you can bring the essence of the season into your home through thoughtful decorations, delicious feasts, and the joy of giving and receiving. Consider creating new traditions that reflect the values and interests of your family, and be open to embracing imperfections, as these often lead to unexpected moments of connection and joy.

Here's a general outline of the story of a well-designed home.

The Inception phase: You may have a vision of your dream home, what it looks like, the details involved in the space, layouts, you may seek inspiration from various sources, such as magazines, websites, or other homes you have visited overseas. This holiday season, what are the fall color and accents you want to feature in your home this year? More deep reds or oranges? Or how about golden tones? The pallet is usually the colors you are drawn to as per season.

Make A Plan: Look for design ideas on PINTEREST or favorite design magazine like House Beautiful or even in books and stores that are having holiday items for sale. Think about your budget and how much of the space you want to change. Decorative items like pillows, sofa covers, silverware, and tablecloths are easy to switch up to make the holiday spirit come alive.

Personalization: A well-designed home reflects the personality and needs of its inhabitants. What things do you like? Shapes, colors, photographs, artwork? For me, I added gold to my space, including my silverware and kitchen utensils as well as my tablecloths and wine glasses.

I wanted more cheerful colors and a touch of sparkle.

Functionality: Good design goes beyond aesthetics. It also ensures that the home is functional. The layout should be efficient and practical, with attention to details such as storage solutions for holiday decor, flow of movement for extra guests, and adding a party vibe to the space. I always suggest switching things up each season like moving artwork around and any accent pieces to give things a fresh vibe.

Create New Traditions: Consider starting new holiday traditions that reflect your family's values and interests. It can add freshness and excitement to the season. Consider eco-friendly practices during the holidays, such as reducing waste, reusing decorations, and choosing sustainable gift options.

DIY Decorations: Get creative and make your own holiday decorations. It's a fun and cost-effective way to add a personal touch to your home. I like making my cards I send out and personalize them with photos and special memories. I also like making my own table decorations for holiday dinners, it’s a fun way to curate the look and theme for the new year’s intentions you want to manifest.

By planning, managing your time and budget, and focusing on what truly matters, you can make the most of this special time of year. The story of a well-designed home is a narrative of creativity, functionality, and personalization. It's a reflection of the people who live in it and the love and care they invest in making it a true holiday sanctuary.

As you prepare for the upcoming festivities, think about the stories you want to reflect in your home. Whether it's through the cozy ambiance you create new traditions you establish, or the acts of kindness you extend to others, your home is a canvas for holiday memories waiting to be painted.

Have fun creating this holiday season!!!
